Question for Alltel customers?

Ok. My Alltel phone messed up. I don't want to pay the insurance deductible to get it fixed because the phone was crap in the first place. I am not eligible for an upgrade for another 8 months and I do NOT want to have to sign another 2 year contract even if I were eligible!! Right now I am using my brother's old phone (he has Alltel too) but it is old and lacks some features that I really miss. My question is has anyone who has Alltel ever bought one of the prepaid phones and had it activated so they wouldn't have to buy a more expensive phone at the store? I know this works for Cingular customers because I know some who have done this. But Cingular has SIM cards and Alltel doesn't.

I doubt it, the other CDMA carriers like Verizon, Sprint, USCC won't. Ask Chad, he seems really nice....
