After going through pure hell over the past year with Alltel and a blackberry phone, I would strongly recommend looking at other carriers. However, if you do choose to go with them, I have heard and experienced good luck with Motorola and Nokia phones. LG phones seem to have some good.some bad experience. Kyocera phones are typically the freebie ones that Alltel offers, and you certainly get what you pay for.As for performance, keep in mind that most phones put out the same amount of power. If you frequent rural areas where converage might be less than urban areas, consider a phone with an extendable antenna or an external antenna jack to use while you are in your car. Other than that, most of the added cost on a phone is for bells and whistles that don't affect the ability to send or receive calls. It's like buying a car....they will all get you there..it is just how much you can afford to spend on the "extras". Good luck!
