George Hotz has released the iPhone 3GS Jailbreak ahead of the iPhone Dev Team who has been holding out until the 3.1 firmware update has been released which is currently out to developers and bit torrent. iPhone dev team warns not to update to 3.1 as it will update the modem baseband and lock you out of jailbreaking and unlocking your iPhone.

I have recently got a new Macbook which came with a iPod Touch. As I already have an iPhone 3G and looking to get a iPhone 3GS I am left with the ipod / 3g phone that I will not be using.

If you are having trouble getting Fido or Rogers to enable tethering on your 3.0GM iPhone. There is a simple way to do it just by creating a custom APN configuration file.
I have added this for Fido and Rogers. Note: I have not tested Rogers as I do not have a Rogers phone. I have tested on Fido with tethering and MMS both work.
To Enable:
You must be running the 3.0GM firmware (only one that was tested)
*You are responsible for what you do. We take no responsibility for this information / charges. If you are worried please do not use this!
Just click on the link from your iPhone Safari Browser and click Install. Click ONLY on your provider or it will change the APN and lock you out of data.
To disable this just go to Settings –> General –> Profile –> Then Remove
I can add other providers if requested.

Rogers/Fido pricing is $199 for 16GB iPhone 3GS; $299 for 32GB iPhone 3GS on a three-year voice and data plan.
8GB version of the iPhone 3G will drop to $99 on June 19 at Rogers and Fido with a three-year voice and data plan.
Rogers is reintroducing the $30/6GB data plan for iPhones effective tomorrow, June 9. Offer available for a limited time.
Rogers/Fido are only national carriers to offer $25/500MB plan. 93% of iPhone users use less than 500MB so this is the right plan for most.
There will be a no-contract price for customers who want to upgrade before they’re eligible for a subsidy.

Existing customers can use tethering on 6GB plans once they upgrade OS. Included free until at least end of the year.
No need to sign a new contract to get MMS. Upgrade operating system and pick a plan that includes MMS.
MMS will be available at Rogers and Fido June 17 when 3.0 operating system is released.

Fido and Rogers are both getting the 3gs phones.
If you already have an existing contract there you will still be able to purchase the phone. It will be more expensive.. maybe 399 / 499 for 16gb/32gb. If they do 299/399 it would be more reasonable.. But are they ever? Tethering will also be allowed. C’mon Bell, you are missing out on the fun.

It could all be rumors / fakes at this point, but hopefully fido will actually continue to carry all versions of the iPhone. I am wondering whats going to happen with people who want to upgrade to the latest iphone and are just starting their 2nd of 3yr contract…. hopefully we hear from globalive soon who are promising 1yr and 2yr contracts.
iPhone dev team has released a video showing they have been able to break into the baseband processor which gives them access to the core of the system. This means the unlock should not be too far away.
