YES! They finally made...
a phone for old people!!! Its called the jitterbug, and one model doesn't even have a numeric keypad, most calls go to an operator. Why the F#$@ don't the carriers have something that simple? Well, not THAT simple, but I know there is a market for it. If they made a phone for kids, why not market a phone for the technologically challenged and just plain mentally challenged. I know it wouldn't be the next fad phone, but it would sell a lot better if at least one major carrier offered it.

Go to the site, I think its the same makers. I tried calling to see if they use CDMA or GSM and I had a little trouble getting an answer out of them....

Jeez, I was just checking the rates for that, and they have found yet another way to rip off the elderly. I read somewhere that the phone is made by Samsung. And in the write up at that website, it says one rate no roaming. So it's probably a GSM phone. I also read somewhere else that this phone is a piece of junk. Last week at Target they had the Nokia 6030 and a 1 year card with 1000 minutes for $88, the price for a year of Jitterbug is absolutely ridiculous, and a real shame if they are trying to scare seniors into getting this phone over others and much less expensive service and phones. |

Thats another good reason that carriers should carry simple phones. But I have encountered people that would rather get the jb than the 6030, which would be deemed "too complicated." Why would you associate "one rate, no roaming" with GSM?

I called and all of their "experts" are "busy with other customers" due to "high demand" Its bs, I get through to the same two alternating receptionists, for lack of a better word, that offer to take contact info for a call later. Even in Cali its 10pm, so their target customer base is asleep, so I don't see how they are busy now. Or when I first started calling periodically 2 hours ago...They guy that answers knew very little, but he did mention that they use 32 different networks..... If it is CDMA then Sprint is a very likely partner.......

Don't you have to SUBSCRIBE to their wireless service to use it? I remember looking at that a while back (not for me), and their price-point seems pretty steep IMO... :( |

There is a number for current customers and one for new activations. I called both a few times out of curiousity, and got the same two people.......... on an alternating basis.....

Well, I guess all companies have to start SOMEWHERE... and seeing as this is a very specialized phone for a generation that generally shy away from cell phones or computers or other technologies that a younger population take for granted nowadays (no offense), they might not NEED that many people fielding customer support or whatever (the phone seems pretty straight-forward to operate, and I don't think users will use it to make every-day calls that much, since the calculated cost per minute seems pretty steep... even for prepaid). :phone: |

No, as far as I can tell, that's it. They weren't even reps, they asked if they could take down my info so a "busy representative" could contact me later, which has yet to happen. I wish that the whole thing was a joke. I'm starting to think that the company is a joke. I haven't called back at a different time of day to see if they have unchained those two receptionists form their desks in favor of replacements, but who knows?
