Things you never knew your cellphone can do!
Here is more about cell phones.
THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELLPHONE COULD DO... There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: #1. Subject: The Emergency Number worldwide for **Mobile** is 112.* If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. #2. Subject: Have you locked your keys in the car? Does you car have remote keys? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. This Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. "Distance is no object". You could be many hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors or the trunk of your own car. #3. Subject: Hidden Battery power. Imagine your cell battery is very low, you are expecting an important call and you don't have a charger. Nokia instrument comes with a reserve battery. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time. #4. Subject: How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check for your Mobile phone's serial number, do this key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones. I hope this helps someone. ;) Crunch |

Has anyone verified ALL of these yet?
There has been A LOT of talk (and some tests) that says #2 is a myth. Also, #4 only works if your carrier actively compiles AND bans stolen cell phones listed on the blacklist. That may work in Europe, but there is no U.S. carrier that I know of that does this. :( And I've never even heard of #3, but it would be really cool if it actually works! Anyone try a Moto? :p |

Here are some other codes:
4EON = Unhiding the alpha tags, so that you can actually SEE when you're roaming. You can either have Cingular add it for your own reasons, but if you see it on your account, Cingular put it on as you are approaching their 40% or 750-minute roaming limit, whichever is less. If this happens for 3 months straights, you will get the "letter" (boot). BM350 = 350 bonus minutes at no extra charge (there are also BM50, BM200 and BM250) IMS APN feature: This is the SIM with the flaming 3G logo and allows for the upcoming video calling. BM1000: This is an unadvertised feature for 1000 messages (SMS/MMS/video/IM) for people on PDAConnect who do not get messages included unlike customers who have MediaMax 200 or 1000 as their unlimited Internet. As I said, it is NOT advertised, but you can ask for it and if the rep you get knows what they're doing, they will add it for you. (...to be continued...;) ) |

Some people LOVE the grandfathered MediaWorks plan for $20. It includes 1,500 texts, 200 MMS's and unlimited Internet. Even though it is no longer offered, there is a way to get it. The code is MEW1. Knowing the code increases your chance of getting by a LOT! ;)

#3 did not work on my Nokia 2126. Why would there be emergency power in a battery if no one knows about it?

Because there are more unadvertised retention plans and codes than advertised. :D

I have my doubts about #2 but I'll give #3 a try sometime and see if it does in fact work. Nice post CrunchDude.

Quote:
112 is the Emergency number in the EU. 911 in the US is mandated by the FCC to be able to be dialed form any cell phone at any time and every carrier is required to carry the call. 112 is programmed to dial 911 in the US for tourists that normally use 112. |

Mythbusters rules...if they couldn't do it, it can't be done. Thankfully the also busted the using the phone at the gas station will blow up the earth myth. I was happy to have caught that episode and watched it get busted.
