(CBS) -- (CBS) A lawyer for model and actress Anna Nicole Smith says she is dead Thursday afternoon after being found unconscious at a Florida hotel.

WFOR-TV in Miami first reported that Smith had been found unresponsive in her hotel room Thursday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

Smith, 39, was reportedly taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood Florida. Officials there told the Miami Herald, "It does not look good."

A spokesman from the fire department told CNN that a call was received after 2 p.m.

Witnesses told CNN that they performed CPR on Smith and that an intubation tube was put down her throat.

The past year has been a turbulent one for Smith. She was facing a paternity suit filed by her ex-boyfriend, Larry Birkhead, who claimed to be the father of her infant daughter, Dannielynn. The baby was born Sept. 7 in the Bahamas. Smith's son, Daniel, 20, died suddenly just days after the baby's birth.

"Larry is devastated," Debra Opri, a lawyer for Birkhead, told CNN before word of her passing. "We hear it's very serious. I've never heard Larry so concerned, he's concerned about Anna and he's concerned about the child."

Very sad...may she R.I.P.

Drugs?? Thats what me and my friends suspect, but we'll see.

The tendency for famous people to drop dead young is probably not because they have a greater propensity for heart attacks!!!!

id have to say it was the trimspa stuff she was takin.

Well while I think everyone and their mother thinks its going to be drugs, who knows. Could be something stress related, a heart attack maybe. It has been a rather tumultuous year for her so who knows. We can only speculate.

Also rapid weight loss can effect the liver, kidney, and other organs.

I have to raise the obvious question here: Who stood to benefit the most by having her out of the way?

A) The real father of her child.
B) The alleged/claimed father of her child.
C) The family of her late husband's son's estate, seeking her dis-inheritance in appeals court still, even after her stepson (the one who was 20+ years older than her) died last year.

It doesn't have to be drugs or diet pills; it could be homicide....

I feel sorry for her baby daughter having to grow up without a mom.

Or a half-brother...

And who knows who the father is...

I'm pretty sure it's NOT the husband of ZsaZsa Gabor though - did you see that interview? He couldn't decide if he wanted to claim to be the father to give the kid a more stable home, or if he wanted to trash the reputation of a dead woman by claiming the father could've been 1 of at least 20 men. Then he tried to say he never had *that* kind of relationship with her. Huh??? I think he took himself off his medication too soon...

DNA could go a long way but the judge on Friday said he wouldn't order an emergency DNA test.

I'm not sure why not, maybe to make the story/saga more exciting....
