So, I just got a job at Dairy Queen

So I just got my first (real) job at Dairy Queen. I filled out and signed all the tax and employment forms, and I start on the 21st!

Before this, my only real job was reffing soccer...(I made a a couple thousand a season) but it wasn't a real job. Anyone else work or worked at a fast food restaurant? What is it like?

A good friend of mine does, he told me most people are nice or at the very lest decent. But there's always the idiot who gets under your skin. Until you realize you have to not let it bother you.... then you only notice the good people......

I worked at McDonalds and a Video Club and ARG I don't know which one I hated the most, but like btaryag said, don't let the people bother you or you will go nuts.

One of the few things I have, is a lot of patients. I will be able to handle annoying people. I'm glad minimum wage is going up in my state soon to $7.15

I can tell you after years and years of retail experience no matter how much patience you think you have, someone is going to test it. Just remember to smile, nod and laugh about it later. :-)

I will remember. Very few people can get under my skin, but I'm guessing someone will eventually. We shall see in the 21st!

Just something to keep in mind, I have no doubt you can handle it but just prepare yourself for the unexpected wild child customer.

I was thinking about that...the thing is, they do everything to prevent you from doing that.
It went something like this:
"The ONLY discount you get for being an employee, is 50% off any menu item (pop/coffee is free)
YOU can only use this discount when you are on break, and it can ONLY be rang up by a manager, after which they must store the receipt.

That was obviously summed up...but those big retail stores don't like employees giving stuff out for free.

Just borrow a page from AirTran and kick the whole family out of the restaurant! (But skip the part where they back-pedaled and refunded the tickets, gave them a flight the next day free, AND offered them round-trips anywhere in US).
