I want a TracFone Nokia 1100 because 1 in 4 cell phones are lost, stolen or broken every year.

You are SO right!

This is the worst mistake, as once you find a carrier that works for you in terms of coverage area, then stick with them. You can always get an unlocked phone or buy what you want and then unlock it.

Cheers

I have 2 carriers that I'm happy with right now; Cingular and TMobile. All of my phones are unlocked for both of these networks.

I just wish the unlocking thing would work with CDMA carriers... like Sprint & verizon. Verizon has a phone I want so bad (the EnV) but I looove my Sprint & would never leave.

As far as I know Verizon doesn't lock their phones, but you would have to reflash the firmware in order to get it to work with Sprint. And from what I hear Sprint won't activate a phone that isn't their own under any circumstances. I had the EnV for a short period of time, and it was a sweet phone.

CDMA phones, as of now, won't be activated by a carrier (lets say Sprint) unless it is a Sprint-branded phone. How do they know? When a manufacturer such as Sanyo makes phones for Sprint, all of the ESN's are loaded into a database. If it isn't one of theirs, or it's reported as lost or stolen, it won't be activated. Back on topic, I've had my eye on an unlocked silver krzr.
