Official 2008 Presidential Election

So I think a little (nice) political discussion never hurt anyone. This thread is here to discuss the 2008 presidential election. Someone help me out here, the candidates I know so far are:

Dem:
Barack Obama
Hillary Clinton
Bill Richardson

Rep:
Rudy Giuliani
John McCain

What does everyone think?

I think that no one should be the president.

What about term limits? She was already President for 8 years! And I quote: "You can't do this! We ARE the President...."

LMAO, I think our economy was allot better off back then. So 8 more years to catch up on some much needed repairs would be nice.

I'm a very mixed-up "Republican" - Republican morals, Libertarian government, and Democratic entitlements... I don't think I'll ever find a candidate that fits that description.

1. Keep this thread 100% flame free please. If theres something questionable, please report it.

While it would be nice for "The People" to run the government, that is unrealistic. So many things are voted on every day...it just wouldn't work.

I think that any of the three candidates that I listed would be good. The first two (Hilary and Obama) are both not REALLY Liberal. I think Giuliani is also fairly moderate, and would appeal to both sides. I am a Democrat myself, but I see very moderately on many issues.

See, this is where the concept that "less government is more" comes into play. And I DO realize that this theory is nearly impossible to go "back" to, but here goes.

If our LOCAL government were the primary government, followed by COUNTY, followed by STATE, and then only for matters of national security, the FEDERAL government, it would indeed be possible to have a true democracy. The things voted on at a federal level would be so few that it would be possible to have referendums on a regular basis to get it done. At the LOCAL level, things like policing, charity, schools, etc. would be decided. This would hopefully have a similar effect to what increasing homeownership in a community has - it would encourage otherwise nonparticipants to become participants because they would then realize that their vote DID matter.

Just my utopian dream for the evening.... LOL!

I think guliani is rather unqualified to run the government. While New York City is by no means a small job, I don't feel his qualifications as mayor afford him the ability to mount a serious challenge. I'd modify the challengers based on qualifications to ummm

Dems
1) Bill Richardson: undoubtedly the most qualified of any dem candidate to throw his hand into the race

Rep
1) John McCain...

this is not a perfect world and qualifications boil down to nothing or else John Kerry would have never mounted a serious challenge to George Bush...talk about two unqualified men, both parties were lacking oxygen when they decided those two could run...
