Will there be phone unlocking here?

Hello everyone,
I am new and would like to say hi to everyone. I have a question.

Thanks for the help,

No, no phone unlocking threads will be allowed unless they are of a nature that is allowed through a wireless carrier. For example, T-mobile will unlock after 90 days. If you have questions regarding that policy, feel free to ask. Otherwise all threads regarding unlocking will be closed. Those type of threads usually cause more harm than good to beginner users and such and we just want to avoid the trouble they can cause.
If you feel that something may or may not be allowed to ask, feel free to ask myself or any of the moderating staff if it would be ok!

On a brighter note, welcome aboard and enjoy the forums!!!

Also....very few people know how to unlock phones, other then flashing them, or asking their wireless carrier to do so. The above post is our policy on Unlocking, and it will be enforced =) sorry
But feel free to ask other questions!

Moderator, Oh Awesome Moderator...

Mayest thy loyal subjects please link the reference to a certain unlocking site that appears to do the job right? Especially sincest the DCMA (or is it DMCA?) now explicitly allows consumers to unlock their phones without fear of legal reprisals?

Thankest thou!

Even the linking of sites can cause trouble. If someone gets linked a site provided by one of our members and ends up screwing up his/her phone and then blaming someone here it again becomes a problem. We all know that scenario has happened before and will happen somewhere again.

Given that, the only unlocking discussions we will allow are the ones that are allowed by the respective carrier. Unlocking discussions based on the Library of Congress decision are welcome as well.

Use good judgment about what you post and everything will be ok!

BTW, thanks for the compliment on the signature!!

I have an undergrad in poli sci and a minor in legal studies.

If I were using good judgment I'd be getting ready for my date this evening!

lol true true.

Is there anyway we could compile a list of unlocking sites that we deem fairly reputable, but with a disclaimer saying something like "We are only saving you the time of searching on Yahoo or Google. We are not responsible in anyway, for what the following sites do or say."

I'd like to stay away from this in every possible way. Unlocking even when sponsored by a carrier is still a dangerous area. Three wrong times even with the right code at your disposal can still ruin a phone.

Frankly, with all due honestly I'll be watching for those posts and will be removing them. I just want to protect people, not police the forum.

I think that would honestly be the best thing is to not have threads asking for or telling about unlock codes

I agree and its not the moderators trying to police the forums for people trying to do bad things. I just hate to see some new forum user get all excited about unlocking his phone for his trip to Europe and then find out that something went wrong, the website he was recommended too was shady or something bad happen. I know I am building up a jack story with this but its just something I've seen before so many times and I want to avoid it.

If you want to PM someone who asks about it, thats your discretion but let that person know that he/she is responsible for WHATEVER the end result is.
