I've heard the Plasma runs out, and the LCD is a better in the long run TV, and less energy is consumed with LCD so your electric bill will be lower than with Plasma. They are making the LCD screens better than the first few years. I'll not be joining the digital TV crowd, I hate TV and only have 2 shows I watch, so when they pull the plug on analog in 2009, I won't miss it at all.

Just one of my problems with TV is the commercials, I HATE them and can't take watching them, and it seems that I have developed this serious addiction to the Internet. And that takes up a great big chunk of my time everyday and most nights. The delete key would be a great key to have on my remote. But all I have it the mute button to make them SHUT UP!!! Until the commercial break is over. Plus I have gotten really spoiled watching my 2 series on DVD recently, no commercials, no having to wait a week until the next episode. Great picture, fantastic sound.

I can't see them going 100% digital in 2009. To many ppl don't want digital or are happy with normal cable.

No cable or dish in my house, I don't like TV enough to bother. My Mom will probably get one of those converter box deals for regular TV to pick up the new stuff, but she won't go with HDTV, I don't think.

Didn't even heard something like that could happen in 2 years. Is this for real, or was it only your imagination?! This I would like to read about...

If that's news to you, you're not alone. More than 56 percent of TV viewers have "seen, read or heard nothing" about the transition, according a recent survey by the National Association of Broadcasters, and only 10 percent of viewers knew it would happen in 2009.
So you are not alone; don't worry the government will buy you a DAC.

That's just crazy. We have digital cable, but only b/c it offers certain channels that basic don't.

2009 is just the most recent date set. I believe the original date set for going 'all Digital' was 2002.

in my opinion the plasma is better than the lcd though.

plasma has excellent color ratio (at least 3000:1), but it can leave trace if you leave still image for long time (like CRT)
the LCD, on the other side, relies the backlight system, that needs to be replaces about 10k hours, and it has viewing angle limit
