Anybody familiar with 7/11 SpeakOut?

The Nokia 1100 is unlocked in the box from 7/11, but the Nokia 1600 is LOCKED. Is anybody familiar with the other Nokia phones offered by 7/11 and whether they are locked or unlocked? Thanks!

I haven't set foot in a 7-11 in a few years, I don't even know if the one in my neighbourhood carries pre-paids. I'll have to check that out. About what do they charge for these phones? Not that I really need another one, I'm just doing some scientific research. :phone:

Prices range from $29.99 to $89.99, and they now have two carriers: GSM Cingular and PCS Sprint. I think the Sprint version is a Sanyo phone with push-to-talk. It would be the GSM phones that would be unlockable or unlocked. Somebody at the "other" place was very disappointed to find the Nokia 1600 was locked up as tight as a Tracfone recently, but the Nokia 1100 I bought over Christmas was unlocked out of the box. That's why I'm curious about the rest of the Nokia lineup on Cingular's map at 7/11.

Per-minute pricing on 7/11 Speakout is 20 cpm (very high, IMO), but the unlocked phone is quite a nice perk if they're still doing that. The 20 cpm rate is slightly offset by the fact that a $25 card is good for a full year without anything like GoldRewards. So their service could be a very good deal if all you need is a glovebox emergency phone.

Yikes, those prices are kind of high, I'm spoiled with the inexpensive Tracfones, I guess, and the per minute rate is too high too, especially with all the minutes I have on my Tracfone now, I still haven't added the 2 ~~ 60 minute cards yet, And we take into consideration the 10 cpm on T-Mobile ( your price being much less than that )

I wonder if the unlocked one you got was a freak incident, or like you are wondering, that more than that one is unlocked. That would add to the value of the phone quite a bit.

I'm guessing that the prepaids from 7-11 are more for convenience and anonymity.

The Nokia 1100 being unlocked was not an accident - by reports from lots of others, they all were. I tried to buy a 1600 last Christmas and discovered it was locked and promptly returned it and exchanged it for the 1100. Then there was a second report from someone else that the 1600 was locked, and they had tried unlocked it, and none of the usual codes would work on it.

I paid $39.99 for the 1100 before a $25 discount for buying a $25 card, so I paid approximately $40 + tax for an unlocked phone with $30 worth of airtime ($5 included with phone). The minutes were expensive, but I just used them up because I had other plans in mind for the phone, lol! (I'm using it on my Cingular GoPhone plan because I can't stand the Motorola user interface).

That's pretty good then. Which Go Phone do you have and hate, I have the c139, which has expired, but makes a good alarm clock, lol, and if needed a good 9-11 only phone. I like the look of it over Tracfones version. ( I also got it 'Free' after that Radio Shack rebate finally showed up ) I guess since my first cell phone was a Motorola and the current one is, I'm used to the way it works, and had a bit of fun figuring out the Nokia 6030. The one thing I really like on the Motos, over the Nokias is the alarm clock feature, Moto has up to 5 different ones you can set, good for different things I want to keep track of on a weekly or daily basis, and Nokia only has the one and you have to set it specifically, it does have a repeater, but you still have to reset the alarm clock to what you want it, not having the option of having 5 separate ones all set and labled to your needs.

I also have a Moto C139 on Cingular. I have my replacement SpeakOut SIM installed in it now, and I have that stored in my (now-running YAY!) van for emergency use.

The most annoying thing to me about Motorolas is having to press the OFF button to END a call. I can't count how many times I've turned the phone off instead of hung up! Some of the Nokia flips do the same thing, but the NOkia buttons seem to be more responsive. I've never accidentally turned off the Nokias that do that.

I could never figure out how to stop the power-up noise on the Moto, although I did figure out how to stop the power-off noise.

I like how on the Nokias you can scroll in a loop through the options. If you get to the last option and press the down cursor again, it takes you back to the first option. The Motos just stop at the last option and you have to go all the way backwards to get back to 1.

My husband on the other hand has never really gotten used to Nokias, and he prefers the Motos. I think it probably really does depend which model you got "imprinted" on for your first phone...

In the settings you can set the Motorola to scroll, it is in the settings, then other settings then initial set up, and go to scroll, and check 'wrap around', and that will get it to scroll. It lists 'up and down', and 'wrap around'. ( does that sound slightly naughty? ) And to turn off the power up and down sound, just set it to silent, and it keeps quiet, which is good if you don't care if you miss hearing it ring if you get a call, I don't, because like Earl, I don't really want to talk to anyone anyway. And just use mine to call out. Someone wants to talk to me, they better call me on the house phone.

I hate that cheerful little tune the phone plays when it gets turned on, much like the boyfriend, lol, no, I did NOT really just say that. lol :bear_wub:
