What do you think about Samsung mobile phone designs?
Samsung ranks third as a mobile phone manufacturer worldwide, following Nokia (1) and Motorola (2). There are 3 aspects that interest me:
a. Phone design (appearance, style, ease of use of buttons, opening, etc.) b. Hardware (display clarity, keys clicking, opening clicks, spring-loaded slide open, battery life, etc.) b. UI (user interface): the software features (messaging + T9 or qwerty input, calendar, addressbook, organizer, games, etc.) If you have used other manufacturer's phones before your Samsung, I would appreciate if you can share with me your thoughts: what are the pros & cons of your recent upgrade to a Samsung phone? Do you like your phone? Do you feel proud of it, or do you try not to expose it? etc. Thanks in advance for your responses! |

Okay, here goes.
I've only used one Samsung phone, the d900 so everything I say is based on that. I do have a lot to say, though, and will save the majority of it for a different thread, when I have time to formulate my thoughts. In my life, in addition to the Samsung I have used 2 Ericsson phones, 3 Motorolas, 1 Nokia, 2 Sony Ericssons, and 1 LG. A - phone design - A+ B - Hardware, A, except for reception which gets a C B - UI, i.e. software, D- I'll explain this all later, I have to run now. |

I have to say that my Samsung trace, while originally a phone that made me nervous due to its thin and wide form. After overcoming some initial fears now I won't let any other phone come into my pocket. I wanted to pick up a dozen different unlocked phones but now I refuse to get rid of this phone. I couldn't get bad reception if I paid someone to shut off a cell tower. Maybe not that much but you get the point.

My only beef with Samsung in the GSM market is the RF performance. Otherwise they have excellent phones. I love the design and interface, but when i go out to the boonies where T-Mobile towers are "spaced" i can tell a difference. especially when the Motorola's and Nokia's all work just fine, but the samsung is bouncing between 0-1 bar and Searching For Service.

I do not own any Samsungs (my sis had S105 once)
manage phone book is kinda pain nokia and SE are easy to manage it said T519, T619, T629, A707 has re-designed RF but some of models has custom-designed software and hardware, that means it's almost impossible to debrand or change language to your need |

I find with Samsung RF varies quiet a bit from phone to phone. The D900 holds and finds signal better than my T629, and gets service where my Moto v635 will not.
I think they have come along way in the last year. I had an e730 for 3 days and it had to go. Just opening it would cause the phone to crash. I think I had a bad phone, but it put a bad taste in my mouth for Samsung for awhile. The cameras on the Samsungs have gotten pretty damn good too. I pretty much like all manufacturers except Nokia. I just can't get into them. |

Here in Columbus, i cant hardly tell any difference, but when i go up north out in the boonies (put zip 43338 in the coverage locator, im usually going in between Mount Gilead and Mansfield) you can definately tell a difference, as a Moto or Nokia will hold onto a call just fine whereas the Samsung will garble and drop calls like crazy..

Hmmmmmmmm... maybe it would help for you guys to post model numbers of the phones you are referring to. I haven't used any Samsung phones, but I do know that RF Performance not only differs from manufacturer to manufacturer, but also from phone to phone. For example, the RF Performance on the Motorola V195 is superior to the RAZR V3. (In fact, even the V60g is superior to the RAZR V3!) Based on what Arigold says, I may have to actually consider Samsung for my next phone... and would like specific models to look at... ;) |
