Samsung E730 Review

Samsung E730 Mini Review
I just bought the Samsung E730 yesterday and decided to let everyone know about it. :rolleyes2

First off, when I first saw the phone it looked fake. It was so small (smaller than the E715). The battery is super slim.

The feel of the phone is like no other I have felt. It is not metal... it has a rubber feeling to it. It allows for awesome grip of the phone, no slipping.

It is black (the one I got at least, a lot of websites show it as silver). It looks so sleek.

External Screen: This screen rocks... 65K colours. You can set a wallpaper for it if you want to. Currently I have one of my pictures that I took as a wallpaper.

Internal Screen: Awesome big screen... The wallpaper utilizes the WHOLE screen (remember the E715 had those bars at the bottom or something?).

Viewfinder External: The viewfinder on the outside is sweet... There is minimal lag, less than you would expect from the external display. You can flip the image horizontally and vertically, set the brightness, zoom in and change from picture mode to video mode all from the external controls.

Viewfinder Internal: No lag... Anyone seen that nokia commercial with that fat ugly phone, people dancing in the club and you can see them in the phone and it looks amazing? Well, its not THAT amazing, but it is great.

Camera: Taken a few pics so far... what can I say, they are good. 1280x1024 :rolleyes2

Video: Size is 176x144. Only shot one video so far... I will not be sharing it

Wallpaper: It comes with some doggy wallpapers which are cute, currently I have the four dogs on my screen. The thing I like... is you can put the calendar ON and it shows the calendar over the wallpaper in a see through kinda way... its really cool.

Speakerphone: Awesome... I love it. People on the other end say they can slightly tell that you are on speakerphone, but nothing is muffled or sounds bad.

Sound quality: People on the other end say they hear me great... I hear them great... No problems.

Reception: I constantly have 5+ bars... it comes with 6 I think (I have seen six)... Not sure if that is my awesome FIDO provider or what...

Menu System: Looks nice, I am going to try to change it :rolleyes2

Radio: At first I was a little disappointed with this feature... ONLY because it kept asking me to use the headphones... I was like WTF? Someone then told me that the headphones act as the antenna for the radio... DUH! So now I think it is awesome... They give you 30 empty presetable stations. You can use the speakerphone to play the radio. You can initiate the radio while the phone is closed, change stations, change volume, turn on/off all while phone is closed... Awesome.

MP3 Player: What can I say... it is neat. Same as above, you can initiate it and fully utilize the player while phone is closed. Speakerphone playable as well, no need for earphones... :rolleyes2

Text Messaging: Took some time to get used to it. If you need to know, you press '0' to change the word with T9 option... took me a while to figure that out :rolleyes2

You can block numbers... so I blocked that FIDO website text messaging thing so people don't run up my bill

Bluetooth: It works... Connected to my PDA... Not a big user of it, so I cannot comment to much on it.

Holes?: Referring to the slots that the earphones and power adapter plug into. NOT like the E715 with those STUPID rubber things... The earphone slot has a slide down thingy that slides back up to close it... its neat. The power adapter cover could have been better by doing the same thing (sliding...) instead you pull it out and bend it back to put plug in... I like how it clips in though, so that it wont ever be worn out... don't know if you understand what I mean... but its better than the E715 cover.

Flash: Better than the E715 flash... took a pic with flash on and it lit up the persons face too much... That is why they have an automatic flash feature which pics when to use it I guess... :rolleyes2

Case: I had an old E715 carrying case which has a hole for the camera... it fits precisely on this phone... only problem is the external controls are kind of cut off from the see through plastic screen thingy... :rolleyes2

CONS

I havn't found a way to use the flash while the phone is closed (as a flashlight like the E715, or when taking pictures).

I am scared to send a text message because in the 'send settings' it has a 'service center number' of +1514993****... not sure if that is for FIDO or not, can someone confirm? It looks to me like it is some place in europe and if I start sending text messages, I will be routing them through there and being charged a lot or something
