Yes, theres a small risk. Pray you don't have a power failure while flashing. :)

Bin question -2gb card - T809 flashing

Hey all

Have flashed 3 phones before and they worked fine. Went to reflash another one and the tfs file keeps freezing at 75% or so. New batteries, etc. so thats not the prob.

Decided to simply flash it back to the T809. Heres my questions.

I have the bin file for a t809, and the cla and tfs files for the D820. I tried
to flash with the bin file only, and it took but the phone wont boot up past
the first t809 screen.

1) Do I need something else besides the bin file to flash
back to the t809?
2) Arent the bin and cla the same - so do I also need a
t809 tfs file too ?
3) If so, can I use the d820 tfs on top of the t809 bin ?

Also, if there are any websites that go into detail about the bin, cla, tfs etc I would be happy to read them, since I dont really know much about them ?

I bought a Sandisk 2gb and it is NOT reading in my 2 flashed T809 to D820s. I have the freezefire update too. Im gonna buy a 1GB and see about that.

Thanks
Ed

ok I might be asking a stupid questions but I have to ask. I got the t809 and unlocked it via the numbers provided on other threads so I can use my Cingular SIM card. I just ordered a regular usb sync cable OEM Samsung USB Data Cable T809 T509 D807 Blackjack - (eBay item 330166422862 end time Sep-19-07 08:19:36 PDT)so I can charge and sync the phone with my pc. The question is do I need the cable with the 9v battery in order to flash to D820 or can I use my regular USB cable? I see on the first page it says 2 hours so I am assuming that is why the battery is there but if somebody can answer this simple questions.

thanks
Mike

9v cable

Mike24

Im not an expert but all the forums Ive read on this state that you need the cable with the 9v battery. That you CANT use the Usb cable only. I have not read anywhere of anyone doing this with the usb only. Im assuming that someone would have done it by now if it could be done. I got my cable off ebay and it was pretty straightforward. Good luck. Ed

I will keep this thread 100% up to date with Firmware to flash your T809 to D820

*If you do this, post on this thread how it went. Thanks

WHY flash your phone?

1. Battery Indicator is now 16 slices instead of 3, so you know exactly how much battery there is.
2. Your phone can Vibrate and Ring at the same time
3. Your phone no longer gradually gets louder when it rings
4. You can use Opera Mini (Internet Browser) Google Maps, and other Java applications that connect to the internet.
5. You can change what the up, down, right, and left keys do when you press them at the main page. You can change it from "Voice memo, phone book, camera, and SMS" to anything you want. Or keep them.
6. Your phone is now UNLOCKED so you can put in any SIM and go ahead
7. If your phone ever sporadicly shuts down on you, or restarts, this will stop that by fixing the software bug.
8. You can have Mp3s as your ringtone without having to do a work-around.
9. With the update, you get 10 more great things too...we're getting new updates every few weeks.

What you need:

1. You need a cable to connect your phone to your computer. (And a 9V battery) You have to get a linking serial cable to do this. I got mine off of ebay. Just search "T809 Serial Cord" (make sure it plugs into the serial port, and a 9V battery can be plugged into it)

2. You need to then download the software that you are putting on your phone. I advise downloading the version that I will post, but if you want version 2 or 3, request it and I will send it to you (there are no extra advantages to version 2 or 3. If the link does not work, please contact me) Advised T809->D820 software

Actually flashing your phone:

1. Make sure your phone is 100% charged. You will also need a 9V battery.

2. Turn your phone off, take the battery out, take the SIM card out (and leave it out) and then put the battery back in. Then attach the 9V battery to the flashing cord you have, and plug the cord into your phone. (The could should have previously been attached to the computer.)

3. You should have downloaded the D820-FC1 file I posted above. It should be zipped. Unzip it if you have not already. It should come with a program called "OneNANDDownloader_v18_Lite" - Open this program

4. You will want to click "BIN + TFS" and make sure "Don't Auto NAND Format" is checked. Then click on the BIN and TFS buttons, and direct your computer to the files you have just unzipped.

5. After this, press "Start."
You should see:
** Wait for Connect Request from Mobile...
** (POWER ON the PHONE!)
What are you waiting for? Do what it says. Press the red button on your phone. Hold it for about 3 or 4 seconds. The screen should not go on (although it may) but your the OneNand Downloader should start to show progress.
It will do something quickly (usually less then a minute) and when it is done, it will give you the option to "download"

6. Press download, and wait for a little over 2 hours.
When it is done, unplug it, put the SIM in, and have fun with your new D820.

The Update
What it does:
1. Automatically save sent sms to sent folder.
2. Battery indicator has now 16 "slices" instead of 3.
3. Fullscreen picture viewer: Push up button to view pics on fullscreen (for some reason this only works with pics in the mem card or downloaded images folder).
4. Fullscreen video by pushing left button (in case you have the slide closed and you can't push the 1).
5. Limit on GIFs individual file size that phone can handle now is 2.2mb instead of 300kb.
6. Java folder is 8mb instead of 4mb.
7. No confirmation for speaker phone activation.
8. Caller pictures show bigger on screen now, if they have enough resolution.
9. Blacklist feature. Handy to block certain numbers so the phone sends them directly to voicemail without even reminding you of him/her. You can access this feature from Phonebook menu inside the main menu. For more info go here to read the google translation of russian patch release.
10. DRM ignore. You can now send via MMS files with DRM protection (songs or images downloaded thru t-zones and things like that, I think)
11. Current time shown in phone call screen. So you can know what time it is though you're during a call.
12. Configure aspect of "desktop" screen from menu. Go to menu 9-3-3 (settings > display settings > text display) and see at the bottom for new options, like wether to show date and/or time or not, the translucent strip behind time/date, and the position. You can also hide the text shown at the bottom of the screen describing what those softs buttons do (this option is called "Cover title" in the menu)
13. Also this patch was added but doesn't seem to be working for me. Supposedly it lets you add numbers to existing contacts directly from the new number menu.

Updating - NEW UPDATE JUST ADDED

Download the updated Bin/Cla file:

1. This patch can be downloaded here: D820 Update

2. Unzip the file

3. Open OneNand Downloader. Make sure ONLY "BIN" is selected. Then click on the "Bin" button and point the computer to the file you just downloaded.

4. Make sure "Don't auto Nand format" is checked

5. Make sure: Phone is charged, you have a new 9V battery. Etc...Take SIM out, turn phone off. Connect the phone, hit start, turn the phone on. Then when you have the option, hit download.
It should take between 45 and 50 minutes.

Enjoy your nice new D820! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

D820XAFC1 Free Download (advised)
Free Download D820DXFC2 (not advised - errors reported)
Free Download D820XEFG3 (somewhat advised - no advantages over FC1)
Free D820 Firmware Update

After flashing the phone, many people try to download the Gmail application from Google. This will NOT work! It will shut your phone off, or freeze, while opening the program. You can, however, use FlurryMail and access your Gmail in the same way. It is also completely free. I hope this helps
The d820 fci file i downloaded says it is invalid or corrupted.

Woo Perfect! I've had this phone for quite some time and love it, though since it's a bit old it seemed to be lacking in a few software features. I ordered my cable from ebay, performed the main flash yesterday and finished up with the update today and that definitely seems to of givin this thing the kick in the pants it needed. Thanks to Nwahs for the help, I read through the whole thread before I performed the update and you've been a great help to me and many others. Keep up the great work!

Well lets start by saying it was a great post with its responses, but there are a few holes i would like to fill in:

Why do you state:
"make sure "Don't Auto NAND Format" is checked"

NAND is the name of the memory module that Samsung developed for this phone and other electronic devices. Its kinda like RAM but it does not lose memory when the power is turned off and it is directly linked to the phone's ram and processor. When I tried to re-flash the phone, following the directions and using a serial cable, the program would just try to put the bin and tfs files onto the memory instead of replacing the old ones. This caused the oneNAND Downloader to lock up at 25% when downloading the tfs file. I started with the FC1 version but with the tfs locking up I tried the FC3 version with the Auto NAND Format activated and it worked. Yes I lost what was on the 80mb memory but it still retained the phone numbers stored on the phone.(They are not stored on the NAND memory block but on a separate memory block, thats why you only have a maximum of 300 for your contacts list.) The FC3 install gave my phone a little spunk and after running the T-Mobile connection wizard I was one line and singing, but the FC3 did not have all the updates that the FC1 version was supposed to have.(16 sliced battery bar, Black list, ect) So i tried to flash using the FC1 and told the down loader to Format the Memory, and it worked, but I still didn't have the 16 slice batt bar. That stuff I didn't receive until i patched the bin file with the freezefire Mod that he gives you.

So what where the results:

Well its hard to explain, i like that i can now use Google Maps and Opera Mini, but there are a few things i miss.

First and for most, the patch is a European release (its from Russia, duh) so it doesn't follow American FCC standards (no your freshly flashed phone is not breaking any laws) but it doesn't have the automatic time and date update. A few years ago cell phone carriers started forcing phones to automatically update the time so people knew when there night time minuets started, but it was only implemented in America cause we only had 4 time zones to deal with. And every time your battery is disconnected your phone loses the time, no biggie if the phone was not so finicky about setting the time(when you set the time zone it resets the time)

The menu is not the same as the t809(thats because the t809 put IM programs in place of the web browser and a few other items have been moved around).

Plus the messaging is not as user friendly as it is on the t809, there is no recent log so you can send messages to people that you have already sent messages to(yes the message reply still works) instead you have to goto the phone book and look it up. Its just a few more button presses but still more work than I'm use to.

The web browser that is built in is not as good and the original one, I would suggest downloading Opera Mini (operamini.com) to your phone and using it, but the draw back to using opera is if you are frequenting WAP sites(web sites designed for your phone) you might have a few problems due to Opera not sending you phone information. (waptrick.com is a good example)

And if you want some direction in you life Google Maps works like a charm, just don't forget to goto T-Mobile's internet setup page. (T-Mobile Wireless Data Configurator)

If you want to use the black list feature the original phone password is "00000000". It just makes it so when people call you they get a busy tone.

Funny thing is the phone does not support the videos that came with the original T809. But once again no biggie, i use a 3gp converter that i found when i bought the phone (you can find it here. Its a free application that can convert most files but it is not very user friendly.) and just reconfigured them.

As for the 10mb memory loss, that is due to the new features and apps, like the way you can now view .doc/.txt/.gif/.xls and other files (if some one could flash there phones to FC3 and copy the *.doc file in the "Other Files" folder and post it, that would be a great help)

If you have bluetooth on your computer and have the Samsung Software Suite you can better manage your files and phone (download here)

Yes you can Flash your phone with a USB cable but it has to be a flashing cable not the one that comes with you phone (the 9V battery is replace by the USB being powered)

The Bluetooth works great for FC1 FC3 and the Freeze Fire Mod, but some times I will make a phone call and use the Bluetooth but on the second phone call the Bluetooth doesn't auto connect.

There is more but alas i must stop for now....

Hi, I'm having a problem with my phone.

I've flashed the phone and installed the update. Everything worked ok but if I were to copy images from my memory card to my phone memory, I couldn't access them later using Downloaded Images. Clearly, the images were in fact being copied over because if I tried to copy them over again, it would ask me if I wanted to overwrite the existing file. So, the file was there; it's just that the menu couldn't see it.

So I decided to flash the phone again and install the update. I flashed the phone and checked to make sure that went fine and it did. However mid-way through the downloading of the update into the phone, the progress meter stopped.

So I unplugged the phone and tried to turn it on but it wouldn't turn on. Then I plugged it into the AC charger and then tried to turn it on -- still nothing. It's been charging for quite some time now and it's still unresponsive and won't power on.

Can you help? I love my phone [it's the 4th T809 I've owned]. I'd hate to think I'd have to replace it [again].

Thanks heaps.
Son

what to do next...

Hi everyone, I have read through this entire thread and must say thanks for all the great advice. However I have a quick question. I recently bought a used phone that was apparently an 807 that was flashed to 820. I checked the firmware and confirmed this with it being: D820XEFG3

However, what do i do now? I am missing some of the updates that I wanted such as 16 slice battery, auto save sms, 8mb JAVA folder, and so on.

I figure that it must be in the update file listed right? "D820XEFF1 - Update 3 (Most Recant)" from the savefile.com website (Free file hosting by Savefile.com) Is this all I need to do and apply? I know it has been said to go from 1-3 however has anyone done just the 3rd update and have it work?

How long does this update take? I have heard 20 mins or so.

As well could somebody send me a link to the proper cable with the 9v battery addition on it. I cant seem to find one on ebay

Thanks for all your help
