yup, when i bought my sc2 (not really a sport car, but somewhat looks like one :p ) the place had one that was tan and one that was red. I priced the insurance on both, let's just say i ended up with the tan.lol

the insurance was almost twice as much for the red.. the insurance guy said "well you're 18, buying a red car, and a boy! what else did you expect?"

I really don't understand that either. Why would the color of the car affect anything? I mean, I could see if it had some custom-made paint color that couldn't be easily replaced, but just basic red... come one.

I think it's due to the fact that red on a car has always been associated with speed and therefore the insurance companies know in advance that accidents related to speed will drive the premiums up. Just a thought though.

I had been told once before that is has something to do with the color pigments in the red paint... regardless of what it is, it's dumb that you should have to pay extra just because of the color.
