Getting IRC to work over WAP

I need some help getting my phone to connect to IRC.

I downloaded and installed jmIRC, but have not been able to get it to connect. IRC uses port 6667, but it also has a HTTP proxy option. The proxy options are server (I used wap.voicestream.com), proxy port (I used 8080), and proxy password (I left blank). I couldn't get it to connect with or without the proxy settings.

I have the $5.99 Web plan and if this type of usage is not allowed, then no biggie, but I just thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance for any help!

I haven't heard of this problem before. $5.99 lets you do pretty much anything....but I've heard of people switching to the $19.99 plan and getting stuff to work. That is a lot of $$ though. Someone will come along that knows what you are talking about and post.

*By the way, if you have a duplicated thread, just report it as a bad post and we'll delete it right away. No worries though*

From what I understand about the $5.99 plan, port 8080 is used to connect, so the phone won't be able to directly connect to the port IRC normally uses (6667). For that reason, I tried activating the HTTP proxy settings using wap.voicestream.com and port 8080, but have had no luck with that.

some irc servers accept port 8080
but the problem is: some servers don't like GPRS

you can use pocketIRC if you have WM device (pda phone or tethered)
if you use efnet, you can try
irc.mzima.net:8080
irc.efnet.pl:8080
but since some IRC servers don't like GPRS, you may have hard time for that
