Unlocking a verizon wireless phone?

I have a samsung a990 on vzw network. I like the network and have no issues. I was wondering is it possible to unlock the phone to use its full potential. ie when samsung made the phone they made it with lots of features like mp3 player, better menus, and more bluetooth features, I want to know if it's possible to unlock these?

I don't know about unlocking the phone but since your phone has, according to the website, V-Cast music & video you should be able to upload your own music to the phone as well as purchase songs through V-Cast music (if you subsribe to V-Cast). If you don't have a V-Cast subscription I believe you should be able to still upload your music.I have the Razr V3m and I have purchased songs as well as uploaded my on CD's via the Music Essentials Kit (purchased through Verizon) and use my phone as an MP3 player. Same with my daughter's 1st generation LG Chocolate.Good luck!

There are two primary methods for mobile phone unlocking. The method used to unlock a handset depends largely on the manufacturer, as well as the carrier.

Code Unlocking: The easiest method of unlocking a handset is by code unlocking. This requires a number of details about the handset, including:

IMEI for the phone
Handset model
Network
Country

These details are used by UniquePhones.com to generate your unlocking code, which is sent to you via email along with instructions on how to use it. Once keyed into your phone, any existing restrictions are removed.

Thanks,
