:: LAPTOP Magazine • Verizon V CAST Mobile TV Launching Tomorrow ::
LAPTOP has received word that Verizon Wireless' anticipated V CAST Mobile TV will launch tomorrow, March 1st, in selected areas.
Our tipster, who is very close to the product, said that V CAST Mobile TV will debut on the Samsung SCH-u620 with eight channels that feature live and time-shifted content from CBS, Comedy Central, ESPN, Fox, MTV, NBC Entertainment, NBC News, and Nickelodeon. Some channels will also offer classic programming from yesteryear.
Pricing is expected to be $15 per month for the Mobile TV service or $25 per month with a bundled package that will include Verizon V CAST Video and Mobile Web.
Unfortunately, it appears that V CAST Mobile TV will only be available in a dozen markets at launch, mostly those that are west of the Mississippi (such as Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Salt Lake City, Utah). The limited number of markets may be due to Verizon's difficulties with seizing the old, semi-abandoned UHF channels over which V CAST Mobile TV will be broadcast. And what became of the LG VX9400, the other mobile phone that was to receive the service? Expect that sexier handset to arrive soon.
We'll have more info on this hot, new service tomorrow, so check back.
